Units and their Function Empty
PostSubject: Units and their Function   Units and their Function EmptySat May 07, 2011 10:23 pm

This is information I received a long time ago describing units. It is still accurate. It is 0.3.2 - Viriato's Art of War from the main board.

http://board.en.ikariam.com/board31-archives/board33-archive-community/67162-0-3-2-viriato-s-art-of-war/

This provides information about units and their function/effect in battle including walls.

Walls
- As long as there are walls, enemies cannot get to your units.
- Everytime a breach is made, close-combat units defend the gap and try to close it again.
- Decreases enemy morale.
- Provided with inbuilt artillery which attacks aggressors' front row.
- Can garrison units.

Light Infantry [Spear Thrower; Swordsman]
- Flanks enemy troops. If so, engages archers and demoralizes enemy.
- Prevents enemy flanking. If flanked, archers will be engaged by light infantry and army moral will suffer.
- Cannot flank unless all enemy walls are demolished.

Heavy Infantry [Phalanx; Steam Giant; Barbarian-Axe Swinger (not recruitable)]
- Occupies the front row, the main battle position.
- Engages opponents' front row.
- If heavy infantry is insufficient, other units will occupy the front row and perform poorly.
- As long as there is heavy infantry your enemies cannot conquer a city.

Long-Range [Slinger; Archer; Marksman]
- Can attack the front row unharmed.
- When defending, can fire from within the walls.
- If they run out of ammo they will go onto reserve?
- If engaged in close-quarters, uses a weaker melee weapon.
- Can be engaged by light infantry if army is outflanked.
- Can be engaged by hostile heavy infantry if allied front row is defeated.

- Provoked casualties are easily healed by doctors (due to low damage)?
- Try to fill up the back row with, at least, a small force of these.

Artillery [Battering Ram; Catapult; Mortar]
- Demolishes enemy walls.
- Until walls are unreached, they generally fire against the front row.

- Provoked casualties are unlikely to be healed by doctors (due to massive damage)?

Fighter (Air) [Gyrocopter]
- Can only be engaged by fighters.
- Only engages air units.
- If there are no enemy air units they will remain in ground. If so, can they be engaged by other ground units?

Bomber (Air) [Bombardier]
- Can only be engaged by fighters.
- Engages enemy ground forces from the air. (can they engage all ground troops or just the front row?)
- Fragile against enemy fighters, should be escorted.

Auxiliary/Support [Cook; Doctor]
- Affects armies without having to fight directly.
- They seem to have their own row, behind the the long-range battle line.
- If outflanked, can they be engaged by light infantry?
- Can they be engaged by artillery?

Hit points
- The ammount of damage a unit is able to sustain before it dies.

Armor
- Whenever a unit takes a hit, damage taken is subtracted from the armor.

Accuracy
- The chance to focus all the damage on one single unit. Excessive damage goes to waste.
- If the attack is missed, the damage is distributed equally among all the units in the stack.

Ammunition
- The amount of rounds a unit can use it's long-range weapon.

Size
- The space that each unit automatically occupies in the formation.
- Each slot in the battle formations has a limit of 30. Once the limit is reached, units will stay as reserve.
